Description

This is Bobby. She is 9 weeks old and wouldn't be alive now - but she had luck.

She was born in the middle of August 2013 - in a basement room full of garbage and sharp nails. It was locked up and the owner didn't care. Some people heard her crying, but nobody wanted to do something. The police that was called tried to find her by opening another basement room, which was unfortunately the wrong one. Since both of them were full of garbage, you couldn't see her, you could just hear her crying. After finding that the kitty wasn't in the opened basement room, the policeman refused to open the next one and told me that probably there is a mother to the kitten and that it isn't necessary to open the room.

At this point I have to tell you that there is no way out of the basement room but a big water pipe leading to a tilted window. If the kitten would have survived without human help, it had to grow up several months until being old enough to escape the basement room.
The mother wasn't there and if she was, she didn't care.

The next day I looked into the basement room, putting some water and food there, but when I heard the kitten crying this day, it didn't sound like a kitten any more. It was quiet, it sounded more like a groaning floor or door, and it was obvious that it was lacking the power to cry anymore. I decided to call the police one more time, but they refused to come, telling me it wasn't necessary and I shouldn't call again. I called the animal shelter and they told me they couldn't do anything. Then I called the fire department, telling them about the lonely kitten crying in a locked up basement room, probably dying in this second. They promised to come and so they did, only 5 minutes later.
They looked at the basement room and told me they couldn't open it because only the owner was allowed to open, and a kitten wouldn't be a reason good enough to open for them.
After a few minutes, they heard the baby crying, and one of them told me:

"I see that it is suffering, but if it is dying, there is no reason to open the room any more - it will die anyway."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Life is holy. You don't decide wether some creature has to die or is allowed to live.
After nearly one hour of argueing, one of them finally opened the room, telling me it was my responsibility and not his. That's okay for me.
After taking out all the garbage (bloody and with nails everywhere), he found two small kittens, one week old, weak, and one with sinusitis that would have killed it in the cold basement.

I took them and with the help of a friend who cared for them in the first five weeks, they survived and became healthy little kitties.

I got a call from the policeman the same night. He told me it was wrong to open the room since the garbage of the owner was worth more than a cat's life. I told him that I was responsible and that it was not my opinion. Life is holy.

This happened in Germany, where we have a so called "Tierschutzgesetz" (Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act). It only exists on paper and doesn't mean anything. People lack the courage to do something when an animal needs help. They find a higher value for simple things, even for trash, than for living animals, forgetting that this is what they are themselves: animals. The only difference is: they have a voice and language to speak, the weak ones don't.

Please, my dear friends: if you find an animal suffering and in need for help, don't hesitate to help. Show courage, show love, change something! Always remember that life has the highest value and that the stronger ones are here to help the weak ones. Show love! And if you ever find a kitty needing help, think of Bobby and her brother Nuno, and how they only needed one person to survive. One person who is the difference between life and death. Always choose life.

I'm so happy that you have courage to save that kitten! :)
Life is holy indeed and I hope people will read this and think about others even one moment - especially think about those who are in worse situations and especially animals :o
